Apostolic and Historic Faith

"Anglican" simply means "English" in Latin. Our branch of the Catholic Church is as old as the Roman Catholic branch and nearly as old as the Eastern Catholic, or Orthodox branches of Christ's universal Church. Legend suggests that Joseph of Arimathea brought the catholic faith to England and that Aristobulus was consecrated the first Anglican bishop by Saint Paul before St. Peter reached Rome.  Historic documents list three Anglican bishops as in attendance at the Council of Nicea in 325 AD.

The Anglican Church in America continues in the historic Anglican expression of the Christian Faith as the same has been transmitted to us through the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, the Creeds and Counsels of the Undivided Church, and the Book of Common Prayer. We are determined to continue in the Catholic Faith, Apostolic Order, Orthodox Worship, and Evangelical Witness of the historic Anglican Church, with its traditional liturgy, music and patrimony.

Our Apostolic Succession is traced back to the 1977 Congress of St Louis and the subsequent consecration of bishops by the Right Reverend Albert A. Chambers of The Episcopal Church.  Today there are several groups or jurisdictions of traditional Anglicans often referred to as “Continuing Anglicans”.

On October 6, 2017, the four largest Continuing Anglican Churches came together and entered into communio in sacris.  This historic agreement confirming this was signed in the presence of over 550 clergy and lay delegates by the leaders of the Anglican Catholic Church (ACC), the Anglican Church in America (ACA), the Anglican Province of America (APA) and the Diocese of the Holy Cross (DHC) in Atlanta, Georgia.

Timeless Worship

We observe the ancient rites of the Church through prayer and the celebration of Holy Communion (commonly called the Mass). The liturgy of the Catholic Church binds us together; it is through timeless worship that the people of God come together most completely to offer their prayers, sing their praises to God and deepen their spiritual understanding. We encourage all to join with us, to worship and participate in the unique spiritual journey that is the Anglican way.

What is Classical Anglicanism?

If you are new to our Diocese, or simply visiting this web site, we hope you will join with us for worship services at one of our local parishes. You will find our parishes to be warm and welcoming; in our churches, we experience the joy and commitment of a common life as faithful Christians. We seek to share the wonder, mystery and love of our faith with all earnest Christians.

The Diocese of the West includes parishes and missions in the western United States, which include Montana, Wyoming, Arizona as well as the western coastal states.
